FCC ID Labeling for Certified Radio Devices

How to format, place, and document the FCC ID on a certified product.

Overview

How to format, place, and document the FCC ID on a certified product.

Products authorized under FCC certification are identified by an FCC ID consisting of the grantee code and the product code. The identifier must match the authorization grant exactly and must be displayed in a location and format that meets the applicable FCC requirements.

The label should be visible or electronically accessible as permitted by the rules, durable for the expected life and use of the product, and associated with the final marketed device. If the product is too small for normal external labeling, alternative approaches may be available, but they should be reviewed carefully and documented in the certification exhibits.

When a host product contains a certified module and the module’s FCC ID is not visible, the host generally needs an exterior statement identifying the installed module. The exact wording and any additional statements should follow the module integration instructions.

The label artwork, product photographs, user manual, packaging, and application exhibits should all use consistent model and FCC ID information.

APEX CS practical takeaway: Confirm the product-specific regulatory pathway before production, testing, labeling, or shipment. Requirements vary by device design, intended use, claims, market channel, and final configuration.
