Reduce delays by sending representative, configurable, and fully documented test samples.

FCC testing samples should represent the final production design, including enclosure, PCB layout, shielding, power supply, antennas, cables, accessories, and firmware. Engineering prototypes may be acceptable for early pre-compliance work, but certification testing should use a configuration that accurately reflects the product that will be marketed.


The laboratory must be able to place the device into required test modes. Manufacturers should provide test software, commands, cables, debug interfaces, and clear instructions for continuous transmission, channel selection, modulation selection, data-rate control, power adjustment, and worst-case operating modes. Batteries, chargers, adapters, and special fixtures should be included when applicable.


A sample package should also identify the model number, hardware version, firmware version, radio module, antenna model and gain, supported bands, operating voltages, and any differences among product variants. For product families, the manufacturer should explain why the selected sample represents the worst case.


Before shipment, confirm that the sample powers on reliably, test modes work, connectors are accessible, and no unapproved last-minute changes have been made. A short pre-test checklist can prevent days or weeks of avoidable delay.
