Bluetooth transmitters intentionally generate and transmit radio-frequency energy. In most finished products, that means the transmitter must be covered by an FCC equipment authorization before the product is marketed, imported for sale, or delivered to end users in the United States.
There are two common product configurations. A manufacturer may build a custom radio design directly into the product, in which case the finished device normally requires its own certification. Alternatively, the manufacturer may integrate a previously certified transmitter module. A certified module can reduce testing and filing work, but only when the module is used within its approved conditions, including antenna type, installation method, separation distance, host configuration, and labeling instructions.
Using a certified module does not automatically eliminate all host-product obligations. The host may still need evaluation for unintentional emissions, simultaneous-transmission conditions, RF exposure, digital-device requirements, and final-product labeling. Changes to antennas, shielding, enclosure geometry, power level, firmware, or co-located radios can trigger additional review.
A practical review should therefore begin with the radio chipset or module, existing FCC ID, antenna specifications, operating frequencies, maximum conducted power, host-product drawings, and intended use conditions. The goal is to confirm whether the existing authorization can be leveraged or whether a new certification or permissive-change filing is needed.
